IKORODU FEDERAL LAWMAKER, REP BENSON SUPPORTS 42 IKORODU LAW GRADUATES WITH N200,000 EACH AS LAW SCHOOL GRANT

42 Law graduates, comprising of both indigenes and non-indigenes of Ikorodu Division today, received financial grants of two hundred thousand naira (N200,000.00) each from the lawmaker, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Reps, Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson.

The grant, which is coming for the second time in two years, since its commencement, is aimed at alleviating the financial demands associated with their law school training.

Wife of the Federal lawmaker, Mrs. Jumoke Benson, who stood in for her husband at the presentation noted that the lawmaker, who himself is a lawyer, initiated the annual financial grant for the law graduates, based on his personal experience during his days as a young law graduate.

Mrs. Benson said the initiative underscores her husband’s deep understanding of the huge financial demands associated with law school training, having walked the same path himself.

‘As a legal practitioner, he understands the academic and financial challenges that accompany professional law education. This support is intended to ease that burden’, she stated.

She further charged the beneficiaries to remain diligent, disciplined, and focused, stressing that professional success requires sustained hard work.

‘You represent the future of this community. When you attain your full qualification and begin to thrive in your careers, remember to extend a helping hand to others’, she advised.

Corroborating Mrs Benson, the Director-General of Benson’s iCare Foundation, Mayor Deen Sanwoola disclosed that the grant is a direct response to the recurring trend of law graduates facing financial strain during their professional legal education.

According to Sanwoola, in the past, law graduates usually approached Rep Benson’s office to seek financial assistance to offset their tuition and other compulsory fees for their law school programme.

This, Sanwoola stated, prompted the establishment of a more organized and transparent support framework.

“We identified a pattern where graduates in professional training required urgent financial help. Rather than handling requests informally, a structured system was introduced to ensure fairness and prevent abuse,” he said.

Sanwoola further clarified that funding for the scheme comes directly from Rep. Benson’s personal resources are not from public funds.

‘This is a personal commitment by the lawmaker. It is not financed by government allocations. He has chosen to invest his own resources in supporting these young law graduates’, he added.

The iCare DG also use the opportunity to admonish the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by excelling in their studies and upholding high ethical standards in their future careers.
