IKODASS INDOOR GAMES: WE WILL EXPOSE PARTICIPANTS TO THE GLOBAL STAGE, IKODASS CHAIR, EROGBOGBO PLEDGES

Participants and importantly, winners of the maiden edition of the IKODASS Indoor Youth Championship will be exposed to national and international competitions.

This assertion was made by the Chief Host of the event and Chairman of IKODASS, Mr Rotimi Erogbogbo while addressing participants and spectators at the end of the day one, Chess and Scrabble game competitions held at the Rhoda Youth Centre at Solomade Ikorodu yesterday.

Erogbogbo, in his address commended the participants and encouraged them never to relent in improving their skills in the game. He also implored those who lost in the game not to see themselves as losers but winners. He asserted that, only those who cannot play the game are losers.

‘The game of chess has come to stay in Ikorodu. We are impressed with all of you and want you to know that we are not stopping here. We will expose you to national and international competitions to further help you to hone your skills’.

‘The second edition of this game will be taking place in December and we will be glad to have all of you here. And, we will train you before the competition. I can assure you of that’, he added.

Winners of the male and female categories in Chess and Scrabble were also recognized and received handshakes from the IKODASS Chairman and the LoC Chairman, for being outstanding in the competitions.

Mr Erogbogbo however assured the winners that their prize money and gifts for the participants was sacrosanct and would be formally presented to them at the games grand finale on Thursday, 9th September at the Ikorodu Town Hall.

Disu Olaitan Ibrahim, a beginner chess player was specially recognised by the Chief Arbiter, Mr Olawale Oyeneye for his courage to have put in for the competition, despite being new to the chess game.

He also won for himself a free chess training scholarship with the Chess in the Slum organisation to further help him develop his skill in the game.

A total of 40 youths participated in the Chess game with 29 males and 11 females. Similarly, a total of 13 youths competed for the Scrabble games with 2 girls and 13 boys.

The 3 day indoor games championship continues today with Snooker and Table Tennis games holding at Eroz Place, Gbasemo Street, Aga in Ikorodu.

Grand Finale of the games and presentation of prizes and gifts to the participants holds on Thursday, 9th September at Ikorodu Town Hall.
