Hon Babajimi Benson, representing Ikorodu federal constituency at the House of Reps has recorded another major feat, this time in his primary assignment as a federal legislator, as the Good Samaritan bill, sponsored by the Ikorodu-born federal lawmaker has scaled all legislative and have been passed by the House of Reps.
According to a statement, signed by the lawmaker, details of the bill is as follows;
A Bill for an Act provide protection of persons who render reasonable assistance during emergency situations occurring at place within Federal Jurisdiction and to serve as a model to be adopted by States of the Federation and for Related Matters (HB.171) introduced by Hon. Babajimi Benson on June 16, 2016, has been passed by the House.
The Bill was passed on Tuesday, December 12, 2018 and would be sent to the Senate for Concurrence before it would be presented to the President for his signature.
When the bill becomes an act, it would encourage people to render reasonable assistance to people in distress without the fear of bearing the consequences of such assistance.
It would be noted that Nigerians rarely assist people in emergency situations like accidents and armed robbery attacks, due to problems with law enforcement agencies, particularly the police. This has led to many avoidable loss of accidents victims.
With the passage of the bill and concurrence by the Senate, Nigerians in emergency situation can now be sure of immediate assistance, while those assisting the victims are now protected under the law.
