Meanwhile, concerned residents and stakeholders across Ikorodu division has berated the marginalization of Ikorodu division in the area of project execution by the Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration of Lagos State.
The stakeholders who expressed their grievances on social media platforms associated with the division condemned the governor for being partial in the execution of projects in the state. They claimed that his project execution was lopsided and is deliberately done in favour of his home town of Epe and other parts of Lagos state, with Ikorodu division conspicuously being sidelined.
A concerned resident, simply called Dee-1 lamented the embarrassing state of Ikorodu-Sagamu road. He buttressed his position by posting pictures of the terrible state of the road on the platform and vowed to continue posting the pictures on all social media platforms to embarrass the government until something is done to address the anomaly.
‘Some of you will say Ambode is working, he has completely neglected Ikorodu division. This is Sagamu road, do I hear you say it is federal road? Is Airport road not a federal road?. In my own opinion, Ambode has failed us’ he said.
Another stakeholder and a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress party in the state, Owolabi Anifowoshe decried the governor’s style of project execution in favour of some parts of the state.
Anifowoshe cited the instance of the recently announced building of old people’s homes in some divisions of the state, with the governor being silent on Ikorodu’s share of the project. ‘I was on the stage in town hall when the governor came to campaign in Ikorodu in 2015 where he promised to cite one of the projects in Ikorodu division. But, now that it’s time for execution, the governor did not mention Ikorodu division’ he said.
Other concerned stakeholders who commented on the development asked if Ikorodu is part of Lagos and wondered why the governor would raise the hopes of Ikorodu residents with promises of projects that have refused to take off. They further expressed doubt about the execution of any of the projects, barely two months to the end of the 2017 budget year.
They also cited the instance of the Ikorodu-Sagamu road which the state government has refused to intervene, claiming it belonged to the federal government, while they are embarking on rehabilitation of other federal roads in the state, like the Airport road.
Some of the projects mentioned were the cancelled fourth mainland bridge that would link Ikorodu division to other parts of Lagos. Others are the Igbe-Ginti road, Owutu-Arepo road among other projects that has remained on paper till date.
However, member, representing Ikorodu Constituency 1 at the state assembly and majority leader of the house, Hon. SO.O.B Agunbiade has debunked the allegation, saying that the governor’s unalloyed commitment to the state projects in the division was not in doubt. He advised Ikorodu stakeholders to rather engage the government constructively and speak with one voice
