A former Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Kayode JAKANDE is dead. Jakande died in Lagos aged 91.
Jakande who was the first civilian governor of the State governed the state between 1979 and 1983. His second term in office was truncated through a military coup that brought in Genneral Muhammed Buhari, Nigeria’s current president.
Late Lateef Jakande who was fondly called ‘Baba Kekere’ by his teeming supporters led the State on the platform of now defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), founded by the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Alh. Jakande would be remembered for his exemplary leadership style and unprecedented developmental projects cutting across road construction, housing and education.
His administration’s signature education project, popularly called ‘Jakande Building’ are still visible in many schools across the state, almost 40 years after he left office.
