For the umpteenth time, residents and motorists who regularly ply the T.O.S Benson Road in Ipakodo area of Ikorodu Division have lamented the deplorable state of the road, occasioned by the recent demarcation of the road by the Lagos State Government.
The latest complaints is coming on the heels of the worsening state of the road.
it would be recalled that the Lagos State Government, through the Public Works had embarked upon the demarcation of the road with concrete median from Dangote Roundabout in Ipakodo up to Ojogbe roundabout.
Following the demarcation of the road, most parts of the road, especially around the ferry terminal fence, Cappa Junction and Dele Kuti axis has caved in, thus forcing motorists to abandon the road for alternative routes.
Consequently, there has been regular breakdown of vehicles, particularly big lorries and articulated vehicles thus exposing residents and motorists to avoidable danger.
Incidentally, most of these inner routes are also gradually caving in to pressure.
A major stakeholder in Ikorodu Division and former Commissioner for Information in Lagos State, Otunba Ayodele Elesho has also added his voice to the complain by blaming the deplorable state of the road on the recent demarcation being embarked upon by the state government.
‘The situation of that portion of the road is not only deplorable but terribly disheartening. The authorities working on the road median should be ASHAMED of turning that point of the road to a near death trap’ he said.
Speaking further, Otunba Elesho also called out the six Council Chairmen in Ikorodu Division to rise up to the occasion and save the road from total collapse.
‘The Six LG/LCDA Chairmen in Ikorodu Division should immediately rise to the challenge by putting up a palliative work there, at least to make the road manageable for motorists and pedestrians, pending when full scale reconstruction will be effected.
The Ogolonto-Ipakodo road is a gateway to all parts of lkorodu Division, hence the need for the intervention of our LG/LCDA elected leaders’, he added.
‘The Lagos State Government should note that, with the situation of that short portion of the road, its huge investment on the total reconstruction of Ogolonto-Ipakodo road is not giving the people the deserved joy and pleasure’, he submitted.
In a brief reaction, Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly and member, representing Ikorodu Constituency 1 has assured of government intervention on the road.
‘I got information about this case this morning and have communicated with appropriate state authorities. Inconveniences to our people is regretted but remedial actions by those concerned is assured please’, he assured.
