COUNCIL BOSS, STATE BURSARY SCREENING COMMITTEE MEMBER CHARGE IKORODU STUDENTS TO EMBRACE THEIR CULTURE, MOTHERTONGUE

Following the apparent threat to the growth and promotion of local languages and cultural practices, prominent political leaders have charged secondary school students and undergraduates to embrace their local languages and cultural values.

The admonition was given on the sideline of the 2023 Free GCE Distribution Exercise, sponsored by the Ikorodu Local Government on Thursday, 14th 2023 at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat.

In his brief remarks at the event, Alh Lamidi Folorunsho, an APC Chieftain and Member, Lagos State Bursary Screening Committee while commending Hon Adeshina for supporting the educational development of Ikorodu Local Government students equally charged the beneficiaries to be intentional in connecting with their roots.

He also admonished them to understand their roots and embrace their cultural values, as it will help make them all round grounded.

Corroborating Alh Folorunsho, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina stated that for the beneficiaries to be qualified for the State Bursary Award when they finally gained admission into higher institution of learning, understanding of their history and cultural values was a major criteria.

‘Know your “Oriki” The man who spoke to us last, is a member of the State Bursary Award. At the State level, questions will be asked. Any question asked pertaining to Ikorodu, is marked by him and if you don’t get it, you won’t get the Bursary Award’, he said.

Speaking, he said, ‘Endeavour to familiarize yourself with our culture and traditions here in Ikorodu. Don’t allow foreigners steal our culture from us’, he advised.
