Alhaji Monzor Olowosago, Publisher of Oriwu Sun Newspaper has canvassed for more government support and patronage for Community newspapers and media across Lagos State communities.
He stressed that government support and patronage was the only guarantee for the survival of these community media across the state. He made this remarks at the opening ceremony of the just concluded 2-Day workshop organized for community media practitioners in State by the Office of the Special Adviser to the governor on Communities and Communications on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th December, 2018.
Olowosago also commended Hon Hakeem Omoyele Sulaiman, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communications for the support his ministry has been giving community media practitioners in the state, since the inception of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode administration.
Delivering the goodwill message on behalf of Mrs Siju Alabi, GM, LTV 8, Mr Oba Adeoye, noted that, ‘The event of today is a confirmation that the government of the day recognizes the importance of communication and engagement with the people at the grassroots through the community media houses’.
He also challenged the community media practitioners at the state to take full advantage of the social media and technology to advance their practice. He added that, the practitioners should be professional in the discharge of their duties and be a step ahead of their target audience by investing in quality professional trainings and investments.
Mr Tajudeen Sanni, SSA on Community Development Association, while delivering the goodwill message on behalf of Hon Muslim Sanni, Hon Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, enjoined community media practitioners to get involved in the activities of community development associations in their respective communities for a mutually beneficial relationship between them.
