In a bid to promote academic excellence among secondary school students by encouraging them to study harder, lawmaker, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency at the House of Reps, Hon Babajimi Benson has distributed 1,000 units of solar lamps to secondary school students across Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
Benson, who is also the House Committee on Defence facilitated the distribution of One thousand (1,000) solar lamp to 20 selected secondary schools in Ikorodu Federal Constituency on Wednesday.
Rep. Benson achieved the distribution in partnership with SCI Altar Energy and Access Bank. Other supporting partners are Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Rite Foods and Airtel.
The solar lamps were distributed as an education intervention to assist the student to;
- Light up their homes
- Do their assignments
- Build life long study discipline
- Improve school performance
- Use clean energy
- Enjoy healthy environment.
This commendable intervention came at a time when only 20% of candidates that sat for the 2024 UTME, representing 400,000 out of the over 1,900,000 that sat for the examination scored about 200 out of 400 total marks.
Shamsedeen Junior Grammar School Principal, Mrs. Khadijat, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Benson for his kindness in providing solar lamps to the students.
She also acknowledged his tireless efforts and dedication to the development of Ikorodu, stating:
‘Hon. Babajimi Benson’s hard work and commitment to our community are evident in the positive changes we’ve witnessed. While he may not be the first to hold office, his impact is tangible and appreciated by all’.
She stressed that, ‘the construction of our school road, which was previously in a deplorable state, has greatly eased access and improved the lives of our students and staff’.
The Students also expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the federal lawmaker for his kindness and support.
Beneficiary Schools of the special intervention are; Imota Community Junior Grammar School, Isiu Senior Grammar School, Community Senior Secondary School Imota, Ifelodun Junior high School Oke Agbo, and Gberigbe Community Senior Secondary School.
The list include, Ikorodu Junior Grammar School, Elepe Senior School, Luwasa Senior High School, Abule Eko Community Junior high School, Yewa Senior Grammar School Ikorodu and Majidun Community Senior Secondary School.
Others were, Ipakodo Senior Secretary School, Yewa Junior Secondary School, Ayangburen Junior High School, Odogunyan Senior Grammar School and Odo Kekere Community Junior Grammar School.
Shamsedeen Junior Grammar School, Oreyo Senior School Igbogbo, Zumratul Islamiyyah Junior Grammar School Igbogbo and Keme Balogun Junior School Ibeshe also benefitted from the support.
