IKORODU LOCAL GOVERNMENT SET TO BOOST PUBLIC-SPEAKING SKILLS AMONG STUDENTS, INAUGURATES COMMITTEE FOR 2ND EDITION OF INTER-SCHOOL DEBATE COMPETITION

The Management of Ikorodu Local Government, under the Leadership of Hon Wasiu Adeshina has expressed its commitment towards building confidence and public-speaking skills among students in the Council area.

Adeshina disclosed this yesterday, during the formal inauguration of the Planning Committee for the 2nd Edition of the Council’s Inter-School Debate at the Conference Hall of the local government Secretariat.

‘We are partnering with this private organization, Kaodwad and Associates to boost confidence and public-speaking skills among our students. This, we believe will help them to overcome the problem of being shy in public’.

‘We have also seen the need to expand the competition to include primary school pupils. This is a catch-them-young strategy, aimed at exposing them to public speaking early enough’, he added.

Concluding, Adeshina announced that the First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu would be gracing the grand-finale event of the competition.

‘We look forward to receiving the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu to grace the grand finale, which would either take place at the Ikorodu Ultra-modern Town Hall or at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH).

The newly inaugurated committee, which comprises senior local government officials, youth group, corporate sector and representatives of the organizers, was saddled with the task of hosting a successful second edition of the debate competition.

While inaugurating the Committee, Adeshina urged them to collaborate with the event organizers, Kaodwads and Associates, to deliver an event that meets global standards.

‘I urge the committee to work diligently and collaboratively to achieve an exceptional debate competition that sets a high benchmark’.

(President Ikorodu Students Association) – Member, Mr. Muhammed Ismail Anjola – Member, Miss Oluwole Taofikat – Member, and Hon. Afeez Banwo – Member.

Mr. Muhammed Ismail Anjola, speaking on behalf of Kaodwads and Associates’ Executive Director, Mr. Adeyinka Kazeem, expressed delight with the partnership the organization has with the local government. He stated that, the organization has been seeking a collaboration that would elevate the educational competition to the state level.

He expressed confidence that with the local government’s collaboration, the event would scale higher.

He thanked the Council Chairman for supporting the debate, noting that Adesina’s commitment to education was evident in his robust support for the event.
