In his opening remarks, Honourable Aroyewun emphasized that his administration was not only focused on infrastructure but also on participatory governance. He noted that, for the first time in the history of the LCDA, a Special Adviser on Student Affairs would be appointed—an initiative aimed at empowering young people and positioning them as active contributors to governance.

“Beyond projects, we are deeply committed to engaging our people,” he stated. “We work closely with CDAs and CDCs because they are the closest to the grassroots—indeed, they represent the fourth tier of government in practice.”

Furthermore, the council boss highlighted his administration’s reliance on community feedback in executing projects, revealing that ongoing road grading and infrastructural works were directly influenced by residents’ inputs. However, he admitted that while progress has been made, the council is still on a continuous journey of development.

Responding, Aroyewun disclosed that multiple stakeholders—including the Lagos State Government and federal representatives—are collaborating to ensure the roads become fully motorable.

Moreover, he stressed that accountability remains a core principle of his administration, citing weekly radio programs where departments engage directly with the public as part of efforts to ensure openness and responsiveness.

On developmental strides, the chairman outlined achievements across key sectors. In healthcare, he revealed that primary health centers are being renovated and upgraded, alongside regular medical outreach programs. In addition, welfare initiatives under the Glory Agenda have seen monthly support extended to vulnerable residents and small business owners. Education and youth empowerment also featured prominently.

Aroyewun disclosed that vocational training programs are being expanded to accommodate increasing youth participation, with plans underway to establish additional centers. He explained that empowering youths with skills would significantly reduce unemployment and social vices.

“We are not just training them; we are supporting them to start businesses and creating markets for their products,” he said.

In terms of infrastructure, the Aroyewun noted the installation of solar streetlights across various communities and the ongoing construction of what he described as the first “smart primary school” in Lagos State, expected to be completed next year.

Additionally, he revealed a broader developmental vision involving all six LCDAs in Ikorodu Division.

According to him, a 10-year strategic plan is being developed to enhance transportation, trade, and economic integration, including plans for an international waterfront resort. Security and economic growth were also addressed.

The chairman linked insecurity to youth unemployment and idleness, noting that mentorship programs and collaborations with government agencies are being implemented to tackle these challenges.

Meanwhile, Aroyewun commended the contributions of key political stakeholders, particularly Honourable Babajimi Benson, whom he described as instrumental in facilitating infrastructural development across the division.

He concluded by urging residents to fulfill their civic responsibilities, including tax payment, community cooperation, and active participation in governance.

“We are a listening government,” he affirmed. “We will continue to serve diligently, transparently, and with the people at the center of everything we do.”
