Basorun Leads Commissioning; Stakeholders Highlight Economic, Security Gains

The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, has commissioned two strategic road projects: Oliwo Amoju Street and Olayinka Street, in a move that reinforces his administration’s infrastructure drive and signals a new phase of grassroots development across the LCDA.
The projects, reconstructed to standard specifications and fitted with solar-powered streetlights, are expected to significantly enhance mobility, improve community safety, and unlock economic opportunities for residents and businesses.
The commissioning ceremony drew a strong presence of political leaders and stakeholders across federal, state, and local levels, highlighting broad support for infrastructure-led development in Ikorodu Division.
Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, Member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC) and former Secretary to the Lagos State Government, performed the official commissioning.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom; Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, GAC Member; Hon. Babajimi Benson, Member, House of Representatives (Ikorodu Federal Constituency); Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun, Member, Lagos State House of Assembly (Ikorodu Constituency II); Hon. Adedayo Ladega, Executive Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government; Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, Executive Chairman, Ijede LCDA; Hon. Ameen Apanisile, Executive Chairman, Ikorodu North LCDA; and Hon. Sunday Benson, Executive Chairman, Imota LCDA.
Also present were members of the IBLCDA Legislative Council, Management Staff, the Adeboruwa-in-Council, Apex Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, market men and women, artisans, youth organisations, and community groups.
Strategically located, Oliwo Amoju Street connects key commercial corridors, while Olayinka Street serves one of the LCDA’s busiest market hubs.
With the completion of both roads, residents are expected to benefit from:
• Improved access for traders and delivery vehicles
• Extended commercial activities due to improved lighting
• Reduced transportation costs
• Increased property value along both corridors
The installation of solar-powered streetlights further enhances safety, eliminating dark spots and improving nighttime visibility for residents, traders, and students.
In his remarks, Asiwaju Basorun commended the quality of work and called on residents to take ownership of the infrastructure.
“What your leaders have delivered must be protected. These roads are for your benefit; guard them jealously,” he said.
The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba Kasali, also stressed the importance of community responsibility, urging residents to maintain cleanliness and prevent actions that could damage the roads and drainage systems.
In his speech, Hon. Babajimi Benson described the projects as strategic investments in economic growth:
“When you build roads, you build economies. These are investments in human potential and productivity,” the lawmaker said.
Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, who also commended the administration’s focus on infrastructure, encouraged further investment in education, particularly through scholarship initiatives.
Similarly, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun highlighted the administration’s broader impact:
“This government is delivering not only in infrastructure but also in healthcare and education. The people are seeing real results,” Hon. AMA said.
Aroyewun: ‘This Is Just the Beginning’
Chairman Aroyewun, in his address, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive and sustained development.
“These roads are not the end, they are the beginning,” he stated. “We are determined to reach every ward, every community, and every street that requires intervention. Our people deserve comprehensive transformation.”
He disclosed that additional infrastructure projects are nearing completion and will be commissioned in the coming months.
The commissioning marks a significant milestone in the LCDA’s development journey, with residents already experiencing improvements in accessibility, safety, and economic activity.
Beyond the physical infrastructure, the projects represent a broader commitment to restoring dignity, improving livelihoods, and strengthening confidence in grassroots governance.
