
In fulfillment of with one of his ARISE Agenda during his campaign for the position of IKODASS Chairman, Alh. Kolawole Fatai has hit the ground running to match his words with action.
This follows the revival of the once moribund Ikorodu Oga Cultural Troupe (IKOCAT) with structural repositioning and appointment of Administrators to oversee the affairs of the Troupe.
The new administrators, Ikorodu Oga was reliably informed have been saddled with the responsibility to promote and preserve the Ikorodu historical and cultural heritage through arts and cultural performances.
IKOCAT is a subsidiary of Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS) with the following functions:
- Promoting cultural awareness through traditional performances and education.
- Showcasing Ikorodu’s rich heritage during festivals, public functions, and official ceremonies.
- Engaging and nurturing young talents in the area of traditional arts and cultural performance.
- Serving as cultural ambassadors representing Ikorodu within and outside the State.
The statement also urged stakeholders, lovers of culture, and the good people of Ikorodu to support the newly inaugurated Administrator and the entire IKOCAT team.
The newly appointed administrators are:
DIRECTOR – Mr Salami Awolaru (TH)
ASS. DIRECTOR – Prince Ogunsanya Temitayo
SECRETARY – Waliu Adeyeri
ASS. SECRETARY – Lawal Adeola Keji
TREASURER – Rasheed Idris
P.R.O – Adejuwon Ismail
IKODASS REP – Yomi Shoderu.
It would be recalled that IKOCAT was established in 2018 during the administration of Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru as IKODASS Chairman, when the incumbent Chairman was his Deputy Chairman.
However, the Troupe has been moribund since the expiration of the Otunba Abiru -led Executive Council.
The incumbent Chairman, in an exclusive chat with Ikorodu Oga Radio explained that he decided to revive the Troupe, which he described as his ‘baby’.
This is truly a new dawn in the anal of history in Ikodass with the creation of IKOCAT, Ikodass shall be a pacesetter for others to follow.
In his brief remarks shortly after the appointment, the new IKOCAT Director, Mr Awolaru has pledged to ensure that Ikorodu is placed on cultural map of the world.
‘I would like to use this medium to say a very big thank you to all IKODASS members for this huge opportunity and responsibility jointly bestowed on me. I promise to work with my team towards placing Ikorodu in the right path of history.
He also expressed appreciation to the IKODASS Chairman, Alh. Kolawole for the opportunity to serve in the new capacity.
