SANWO-OLU PRESENTS STAFF OF OFFICE TO NEW ALAJEDE OF IJEDE KINGDOM, OBA ADEFARASIN SAHEED HASSAN, MONARCH PLEDGES TO WORK FOR PEACE, UNITY AND PROGRESS OF IJEDE KINGDOM

The newly installed Alajede of Ijede Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedarasin Saheed Hassan, has promised to work for the peace, unity and progress of Ijede Kingdom.

Oba Adedarasin made the pledge today, Friday, 10th January, 2026, shortly after receiving the staff and instruments of office from the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

Sanwo-Olu was represented at the event, which was held at the Ijede LCDA Secretariat by his Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Hon. Bolaji Kayode Roberts

The monarch pledged that his reign would be anchored on peace, unity, inclusiveness, and development, assuring that he would be a father to all, irrespective of political affiliation, religion, age, or social status.

He described the formal presentation of the Staff of Office as a sacred symbol of authority, responsibility, and service, which he accepted with humility and a solemn promise to lead with wisdom, fairness, justice, and the fear of God.

The former two-term Ijede LCDA Council Chairman and Lagos State House of Assembly member also pledged the unwavering loyalty of the people of Ijede Kingdom to the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and expressed support for the vision of a Greater Lagos.

Concluding, the monarch described the throne as belonging to everyone and called for the burial of all divisions in the spirit of unity, noting that unity remains the strength of every community. He expressed hope that his reign would usher in progress, security, and prosperity, with deliberate focus on youth empowerment, women upliftment, respect for elders, and the preparation of children for a greater future.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honourable Roberts, in his keynote address, called on all indigenes and well-wishers of Ijede Kingdom to embrace unity and reconciliation. He reminded the new monarch that history remembers leaders not merely for how they ascend the throne but for how they unite their people thereafter.

The commissioner urged the Alajede to bring together supporters, opponents, and those who remained neutral, stressing the need to heal old wounds, resolve differences through dialogue, and harness the collective strength of all sons and daughters of Ijede for the overall progress and development of the kingdom.

The historic ceremony attracted a large gathering of traditional rulers, government officials, political leaders, community stakeholders, and sons and daughters of Ijede Kingdom, who converged to witness the reaffirmation of the community’s cultural heritage and traditional authority.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Princess Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, described the event as a momentous milestone in the history of Ijede

The Council Chairman also expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the privilege of witnessing the occasion and formally welcomed dignitaries and guests to the presentation of the Staff of Office to the new monarch

According to her, the presentation of the Staff of Office symbolises the recognition of the monarch’s divine mandate, the authority of the throne, and the trust reposed in him by both the people and the government. She congratulated Oba Saheed Adefarasin Hassan on his well-deserved ascension, noting that his reign signaled the beginning of a new chapter filled with hope, unity, peace, and sustainable development for Ijede

Princess Gbadebo-Alogba equally reaffirmed the readiness of the local government to continue partnering with the traditional institution in promoting peace, grassroots development, youth empowerment, security, and social cohesion, while acknowledging the invaluable role of traditional rulers in bringing governance closer to the people.

She also appreciated the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for his leadership and commitment to preserving and strengthening traditional institutions across the state, noting that the presentation of the Staff of Office brought to an end a thirteen-year wait by the people of Ijede, marked by perseverance, resilience, and hope.

The historic ceremony featured prayers, goodwill messages, and cultural displays by differenttraditionaland cultural groups.
