The drive to strengthen infrastructure in Ikorodu has continued with ongoing works on the 7.5-kilometre Àgbẹ̀dẹ–Ìtá Olúwo Road, a long-neglected route now undergoing reconstruction under the supervision of Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, within the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking during an inspection of the project, Hon. Benson noted that the road had been unattended to for many years despite its strategic importance to residents and surrounding communities. He described the project as part of a broader effort to restore critical infrastructure across Ikorodu, adding that development is gradually returning to the axis.
In his remarks, Hon. Benson also observed that Ikorodu currently ranks among the highest in voter registration, attributing the surge to visible infrastructural development and growing public trust in governance. According to him, when people see tangible progress, they become more engaged in the democratic process.
Expressing strong commitment to the project, he stated:
“We are very passionate about completing this road because the residents have shown consistent loyalty and dedication to the party, delivering support from top to bottom. It is only right that development reflects on their daily lives.”
He further assured that the road will be completed by May 2026 without fail, adding that both he and the Governor of Lagos State will jointly commission the project upon completion.

The Àgbẹ̀dẹ–Ìtá Olúwo Road cuts across nine communities within Ẹgbẹ̀dẹ, including Orimedo, Italowo, and Ajegunle, with a total of 120 Community Development Associations (CDAs) expected to benefit directly from the project. The road also serves as a strategic shortcut to Ogun State, a factor projected to significantly reduce traffic congestion, ease movement, and stimulate commercial activities along the corridor.
Commenting on the project, the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, described the ongoing works as clear evidence that Ikorodu is not being left out of the federal government’s development agenda. He stated that the recent projects reflect the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Lagos State Government to equitable infrastructure distribution, adding that the Governor remains open and responsive to the needs of the people. He further disclosed that major infrastructure projects for Ikorodu have been captured in the 2026 budget.
In his concluding remarks, Hon. Babajimi Benson emphasized the critical role of local government chairmen, noting that they are actively contributing to grassroots development by ensuring community involvement and inclusion. He attributed this effectiveness to the Governor’s strict adherence to the rule of law, which guarantees that local governments receive their statutory funds promptly.
According to him, properly funded local governments are better positioned to manage grassroots security, development, and community engagement. He described Lagos State as a model for state and local government administration, adding that this governance structure aligns with the President’s broader vision for national development and remains a key pathway toward addressing insecurity across Nigeria.
