Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) is celebrating 40 years of shaping Nigeria’s environment sector, a journey inspired by visionary leaders who laid the foundation for regulatory awareness and sustainable practices.
It is not just a celebration of longevity but a tribute to the vision of professionals like Prince Amid Adekunle Oduborisha, an elder statesman and astute environmentalist. Oduborisha’s professional astutueness was recently recognized with his appointment as a Governing Council Member of the University of Environmental Studies, Ogoni in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The body also eulogized other founding fathers like Dr. Alex Thomopolous, Adeyemi Wilson, Dr. Chris Ifeadi, Dr. Jeremiah Nwakwor, Berenegi Idoniboye-Obu, Isaac Ogwuru, Emmanuel Odogwu Shell of blessed memory, Dame Anne Ene-Ita, Emeritus Distinguished Professor Babajide Alo, and many others who recognized the challenges in the environment sector and established NES as an external body to drive regulatory awareness and champion mitigation strategies.
This milestone coincides with the 34th National Conference and 35th Annual General Meeting, scheduled for 23rd October 2025 to 24th October 2026, at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre, Abuja, with keynote address by Sarah Mukherjee MBE, CEO of the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals.
As part of the celebration, interviews with past presidents of NES will be posted intermittently, giving insights into the Society’s rich history and impact.
The body calls on individuals, organisations, policy makers, academia, and all stakeholders to seize this opportunity and register to be part of history as NES marks four decades of excellence, collaboration, and advocacy for a sustainable environment.
