IKORODU LOCAL GOVERNMENT FORMALLY ADOPTS IKORODU-OGA ANTHEM INTO COUNCIL’S OFFICIAL EVENT PROTOCOL

The recent courtesy visit of the new IKODASS Chairman, Alh. Kolawole Fatai-led Executive Council to the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government has started yielding positive gains to both the Association and Ikorodu community in general.

This follows the formal adoption of the recitation of Ikorodu-Oga anthem alongside the National Anthem during all official Council events.

The decision was in response to the observation raised by the IKODASS Chairman, Alh. Kolawole Fatai during the commissioning of the Ota-Ona Mini-Model Market on Monday.

Kolawole had in his brief remarks at the event observed that while the National Anthem is a commitment to our nation, the local government should adopt the Ikorodu-Oga Anthem during official Council events as a way of reiterating Indigenes commitment to their town.

‘We are Nigerians, no doubt but, we are firstly indigenes of Ikorodu community before becoming Nigerians, hence I want to move the motion that we start reciting our Ikorodu-Oga anthem alongside the National Anthem during official Council events’.

‘The current Executive Council of which I am the Chairman has launched a branded wall frame meant to create awareness about the anthem and make it portable and easy or indigenes at home and in the Diaspora to have in their homes and offices for ease of learning and recitation’, he added.

In a swift response, Hon. Adeshina directed that the Ikorodu-Oga Anthem be recited as suggested by the IKODASS Chairman.

Similarly, at the commissioning of the Solomade and Adekaiyaoja streets in Ikorodu today, 1st July, 2025 the Ikorodu-Oga Anthem was again recited immediately after the National anthem, confirming the renewed commitment of the Adeshina-led administration to the upliftment of the socio-cultural heritage of Ikorodu, through strategic support for Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS).

Recall that Adeshina has at a recent visit of the IKODASS Executive Council pledged his commitment to the Association and her activities, with the announcements of N10 Million Naira financial support for the annual Ikorodu Oga Day celebration, starting from the 2025 edition, which he promised to facilitate before leaving office later this month.
