Chairman of Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Alh. Kolawole Fatai made history yesterday, 11th June, 2025 as he decorated five past (IKODASS) Chairmen as Distinguished Commanders of Ikorodu Oga (DCIO).
The decoration will be the first time in the history of IKODASS that past Chairmen would be decorated with the honour.
The DCOI of IKODASS is the second highest honour award and is in line with the IKODASS Constitution under Section 95 which stipulates as follows;
“The ‘DCOI’ — Distinguished Commander of IKODASS shall be the Second Highest Honour Award of the association and shall be conferred on serving and past chairmen of IKODASS”.
The formal decoration of the former Chairmen was held at the newly refurbished IKODASS Secretariat located within the Ikorodu Town Hall premises.
The five newly decorated Distinguished Commanders of Ikorodu Oga are the BOT Chairman, Aremo Kamorudeen Ogunsanya, BOT Vice Chairman, Otunba Ayodele Elesho and Otunba David Afolabi Ekiyoyo.
Others include, a former Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Education, Otunba (Dr) Fatai Olukoga and former Clerk and Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru, who initiated the honour during his tenure as IKODASS Chairman between 2017-2021.
The historic event was witnessed by principal members of the new IKODASS Executive Council.
Responding, on behalf of the past Chairmen, Otunba Olukoga commended Alh. Kolawole for being a forward-looking leader and making history with the historic decoration.
Explaining the rationale behind the formal decoration of the past Chairmen, Alh. Kolawole noted that while the constitution clearly stipulates the DCIO honour as statutory for all past Chairmen, no past Chairmen has fulfilled the constitutional provision, hence the decision of his Executive to break the jinx through the formal decoration.
He further stated that the past Chairmen were deserving of the honour, given their meritorious and selfless service to IKODASS and Ikorodu community as a whole.
