For the umpteenth time since he took over the reins of office as the Chairman of Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Alh. Kolawole Fatai has recorded another first.
This time around, the unassuming but energetic Chairman of the umbrella body of all social clubs, groups and socio-cultural organizations across Ikorodu community has decorated the Odofin of Ikorodu, High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya SAN as the first Patron of IKODASS.
The decoration of Odofin Adewunmi, which has the royal approval of the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Engr Dr Kabiru Adewale Shotobi GCIO is coming weeks after the IKODASS Chairman decorated past Chairmen of the association with the Distinguished Commander of Ikorodu-Oga GCIO Award.
He has also decorated the Ayangburen of Ikorodu with the Grand Commander of Ikorodu-Oga, GCIO Award as stipulated in the association’s constitution.
Many have described the formal decoration of the dignitaries as a fulfillment of the letters of the body’s constitution, while commending Kolawole for sustaining the good legacy of Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru DCIO whose administration introduced the honours into the constitution.
It is instructive to note that the incumbent IKODASS Chairman served alongside Abiru as the Deputy Chairman of the association between 2017-2021.
Odofin Ogunsanya was decorated last Friday at his country home when the IKODASS Chairman led members of his Executive Council to pay a courtesy visit to the BoT Chairman of the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL).
The courtesy visit was aimed at strengthening ties between the High Chief and the association, as well as aimed at discussing crucial strategies and developmental strides, aimed at repositioning both IKODASS and Ikorodu at large.
In the formal letter of appointment submitted to the IKODASS Patron, which was cited by Ikorodu Oga Radio, the IKODASS Chairman wrote, “Your high pedigree and sterling leadership qualities coupled with the fact that you are a philanthropist, a humanist of national prominence and an industrialist of international repute are some of the compelling reasons our Alaiyeluwa and entire IKODASS Executive have deemed you fit for this esteemed position.”
In his brief remarks, Odofin Ogunsanya thanked Alh. Kolawole and his Executive Council members for paying him the courtesy visit.
The Philanthropist who was visibly impressed, disclosed that he felt so honoured by the visit, noting that it was the first time an IKODASS Chairman would be paying him a courtesy visit with the Executive Council.
To demonstrate his acceptance of his new role as the Patron of IKODASS, Ogunsanya shocked his guests by announcing the donation of a brand new Toyota Hiace bus to the association to aid its operations, in response to an earlier request made by the IKODASS Chairman.
The Chairman of Multichoice Nigeria further assured the association that his doors remain open to them for future engagements.
The historic courtesy visit climaxed with the decoration of the new IKODASS Patron with his ceremonial medal, while his formal public presentation will be performed by Alaiyeluwa Oba Engr Dr Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu during the Grand-finale of 2025 Ikorodu Oga Carnival.
Some of the dignitaries who witnessed the event were two past IKODASS Chairmen, including Otunba Ayodele Elesho, Asiwaju Rotimi Erogbogbo.
Others were the Publisher of Oriwu Sun Newspaper, Alh. Monzor Olowoshago and the Olotu Om’oba Anoko-Ogbonyari Royal Family of Ikorodu, Prince Jokotade Ogunbiyi and a host of others.
