The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Ikorodu General Hospital, Dr. Taiwo Hassan has commended the Board and Management of the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL) for the donation of a multi-billion-naira state-of-the-art Critical Care Center to the General Hospital, Ikorodu.
Hassan also expressed gratitude to the body, on behalf of the management of the hospital for the its strategic intervention in enhancing quality and accessible healthcare service delivery to millions of residents of Ikorodu through the laudable project.
He further noted that though the original plan was to build a state-of-the-art Renal center for the facility, what IDPIL eventually built is not just a Renal center but an integrated critical care center.

The Medical Director, who was represented by his Deputy Director, Clinical Services & Training, Dr. Lukman Kareem, at the tour of the nearly completed facility, disclosed that the building which houses a Renal care center along with an Intensive Care Unit, has capacity to provide all-inclusive and intensive healthcare treatment and intervention for patients with critical renal conditions and those in recovery stages as well as those with temporary renal challenges.
Kareem, who is also a Consultant Cardiologist further explained that the facility, when completed will further elevate the status of the Ikorodu General Hospital which is already a multi-award winning public health facility both at the state and national level.

He highlighted that the newly constructed facility is more than just a Renal Centre; it also serves as a Critical Care Centre with an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) having more than 15 beds. “This is the only one for now in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State,” he noted.
He added that the next similar standard facility in Lagos State would be in Ikeja, and it is usually a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, making it very expensive. Thus, this donation by IDPIL to serve the people of Ikorodu Division and beyond, taking care of patients, is significant.
Dr. Lukman emphasized that the centre will also serve as a training hub for doctors and other healthcare workers, generating research work for Ikorodu Division and Lagos State.

“In summary, it is a major fit for Ikorodu Division and also Lagos State because we here now can take care of 20 patients that require intensive care or advanced life support,” he said.
He added that, with Ikorodu General Hospital being the leading hospital in Lagos State, having won several awards for its people, management, and resources, this new facility will significantly complement existing facilities.

‘As a General Hospital, we are still leading, and we will continue to lead. With the support of the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative, we are even moving far ahead of the others’, he stated.

Dr. Lukman described the equipment at the Renal Centre in Ikorodu as top-notch, being a 2026 facility, not one that has been 3 to 5 years old. He noted that having a Renal Centre and ICU Centre together is a first, and with this and ongoing/proposed projects, they are more than ready to transition into a tertiary centre.
Architect Ajiwole Oluwaseun, who designed the newly constructed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Renal Centre at General Hospital, Ikorodu, shared insights into the design considerations and features of the facility during the media tour.

According to Ajiwole, several factors were taken into account during the design phase to ensure a functional and comfortable environment for patients, staff, and visitors. “We have every space in view, well illuminated and well ventilated, so expect nothing short of a well-ventilated environment within and out of the hospital,” he said.
It would be recalled that royal fathers across Ikorodu Division, led by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Engr Dr Kabiru Adewale Shotobi laid the foundation for the multi-billion naira facility on 11th June, 2024.
