IKODASS, KITH AND KIN EDUCATIONAL SCHOOLS SET TO CELEBRATE IKORODU’S RICH SOCIO-CULTURAL HERITAGE WITH LIVE STAGE PRESENTATION OF ‘OWAN’BE’ PLAY BOOK

Come July 16th 2025, history will be made in Ikorodu community as the Ikorodu- Oga Development Association (IKODASS) in collaboration with a leading private, Kith & Kin Educational Schools will be staging a Live Stage Drama Performance of Owan’be, to showcase the rich socio-cultural heritage of Ikorodu people.

The Play book, Owan’be written by Dayo David was the winning play at the 2022 IKODASS Literary Competition.

The strategic collaboration, according to the Chairman of Ikorodu Oga Development Association IKODASS, Kolawole Fatai is in line with the IKODASS A-R-I-S-E Agenda in the area of Education.

The forthcoming Live Stage Performance of Owan’be Play book is in direct alignment with the “E” in our agenda, which stands for Education.

The Play, Owa’nbe underscores the commitment of IKODASS to the promotion of education, through Literary Competition among Ikorodu youths. Kudos to my predecessor, Asiwaju Rotimi Erogbogbo for initiating the competition during his tenure.

The current IKODASS Executive Council, in its belief that government is a continuum has therefore deemed it fit to build on the foundation laid by the immediate past Executive by bringing the story in the book to life, through the Live Stage Performance.

Kolawole also noted that the stage performance further lent credence to his administration’s passion for talent discovery and promotion among school students and youths across the Ikorodu community.

Speaking further, the IKODASS Chairman stated that, ‘The Owambe Literary book showcases what makes us thick and unique as sons and daughters of Ikorodu-Oga, by promoting our socio-cultural values as a people. This is apart from promoting informal learning among students, while also serving as a platform for discovering and promoting acting and other creative talents among secondary school students’.

The Live Drama Performance will also feature a special cultural dance performance by the newly reconstituted IKODASS Baby – Ikorodu-Oga Cultural Troupe (IKOCAT), thus making it a showcase of the rich socio-cultural heritage of Ikorodu town.

In his brief remarks, the Principal of Kith & Kin Educational Schools, Mr Oregbesan stressed the need for promoting education beyond the classrooms.

‘We don’t just make our students to write and write. We also help to discover their unique talents and gifts. And those talents we discover, whether in sports, drama or ICT, we try to encourage such students by showcasing and developing such talents. This is so that those who are not doing very well in academics can do well in other areas’.

Similarly, Author of the play book, Dayo David gave insights into the inspiration behind the book.

‘Owan’be is a drama book that tries to mirrors contemporary youths and their battles to marry desires with duties. The Book aims at showcasing and celebrating the uniqueness of the social life of an average Ikorodu person’, he said.

IKODASS Media & Strategy Consultant, Om’oba ‘Peju Akinyemi who moderated the conference further explained that the Live Drama Performance would project the socio-cultural heritage of Ikorodu in the area of celebration, which is being misconstrued by some as extravagance.

He stressed that the Owan’be play will shed more light into the spirit of community, collaboration and partnership that Ikorodu is noted for.

The Owan’be play will be presented live on stage to a large of audience made up of dignitaries including the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Engr Dr Kabiru Adewale Shotobi GCIO, High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya SAN, Odofin of Ikorodu and Members of the State Executive Council from Ikorodu who would grace the event.

Hundreds of students of public and private schools across Ikorodu Division are also expected to witness the historic stage presentation.
