The Chairman, House Committee on Defense, Rep Babajimi Benson, has disclosed that the flag-off of the reconstruction of the 7.5 kilometer Agbede-Ita-Oluwo road is one of the dividends of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Benson explained that, but for Tunubu’s presidency, the road reconstruction would have remaimed a mirage.
The federal lawmaker disclosed this on Saturday at Agbede-Olunla in Ikorodu West LCDA while addressing hundreds of residents and community stakeholders who witnessed the historic flag-off of the road project last Saturday.
Benson noted that while he was first approached to facilitate the reconstruction of the road over three years ago, he could not embark on the project until the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which eventually made the project possible.

‘R.I Jinadu came to my office with the former Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, Hon. Banjo to discuss this road with me about three years ago. We came to measure the road and realized that it was 7.5 kilometers. This is not just a 7.5 kilometers road, it is also very wide on both sides. I told them that it was beyond my capacity’.
Benson further noted that he was able to leverage the influence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is the Baba-Oba of Ikorodu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Iya Oba of Ikorodu to bring the road construction to fruition.
The Ikorodu-born lawmaker equally used the opportunity to apologize to residents of the 10 CDAs on the axis, on behalf of the state and local government for the avoidable pains they have gone through due to the deplorable state of the road.

The flag-off and official ground-breaking of the 7.5 kilometer road by the Member, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency was therefore historic and strategic.
This is due to the fact that the road has been in a deplorable state for decades while several appeals by the community leaders for government interventions have failed.
The road project represented the second phase of the Agbede road project delivered by the lawmaker early 2025.
It should be noted that the Agbede-Ita-Oluwo axis is home to the highest number of community development associations, with over 10 CDAs cutting across Ikorodu West and North LCDA. These are apart from the ones in the border town of Ita-Oluwo in Ogun State.

Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Yekeen Agabje expressed gratitude to Benson for bringing succour to residents of the adjoining communities by facilitating the road project.
The duo of Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye and Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun, members representing Ikorodu Constituency 1 and 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly were full of praises to Benson for embarking on the landmark project.
The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North and his Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA counterpart equally thanked Rep. Benson for his numerous interventions across Ikorodu Division.

The stakeholders, however, appealed to the residents to ensure maximum cooperation with the contractor so that the project can be completed within the scheduled timeline.
The event climaxed with the official flag-off of the road construction with Benson starting the engine of the caterpillar as a symbol of commencement of the road construction.

This was followed by a special prayer session by the group of Baales from the major communities located on the axis.
