
The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has marked its 4th Founder’s Day with a strong call for deeper industry collaboration, enhanced grant-attraction strategies, and dedicated government funding for Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) to accelerate Nigeria’s technological advancement.
Speaking at the College of Agriculture Auditorium, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya highlighted LASUSTECH’s rapid growth, noting that the institution’s student population has now exceeded 12,600, with 39 of 41 academic programmes presented for accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

‘We are mapping the future progressively’, Prof. Odusanya said, highlighting the university’s achievements, including the expansion of infrastructure and manpower, and the accreditation of 39 out of the university’s 41 programmes by National University Commission (NUC).
He equally announced that the pioneer set of degree students will graduate in August 2026, with the maiden convocation scheduled for February 2, 2027.
Prof. Odusanya emphasized the university’s expanding infrastructure, staff capacity-building, and student achievements, including recent inductions into the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). He also unveiled an annual prize for the best graduating student in the university, endowed in his name and that of his wife.

Delivering the keynote lecture, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), urged universities of technology to align their vision with Nigeria’s STI policy. She stressed the need for institutions to strengthen industry partnerships, attract competitive grants, and form a consortium of Nigerian universities of technology for resource sharing.
Prof. Oladiji further called for increased government investment in early-stage research and development, noting that private industry often underinvests in basic research.
Earlier, Prof. Odusanya stated that LASUSTECH students emerged victorious at the Cavista Hackathon 2025, taking first place and walking away with a N2 million prize. The winning team consisted of Peacemaker Eneji Ohieku (300L Mechatronics Engineering), Chidi Moses Ituma, Joshua Onyeka, and Emmanuel Iseoluwa Makanjuola (200L Computer Science).

He equally reported that the university has also concluded the awards of interventions from TETFund to install solar systems in each college and upgrade laboratories.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized the need for continued growth and excellence, saying, ‘Our goal remains to be a highly competitive, much-sought after, globally acclaimed, world-class university’.
The university’s landscape is undergoing significant transformation, with several new buildings under construction, including:
University auditorium by TETFund, Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology (Compressed National Gas and Training Centre), Lecture auditorium facilitated by Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila in Ikorodu, Hostel building, Mass Communication building and 200-capacity hall by TETFund among other infrastructural development projects

Also, a digital learning center was donated to the university and commissioned by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, represented by Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on October 23, 2025 were among the major strides recordedby the Universityim its 4 years of existence.
The event climaxed with a tour of the university’s ongoing newly completed facilities and other projects still under construction.
They include well-equipped laboratories, a 200-sestar auditorium, donated by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), showcasing LASUSTECH’s commendable drive towards providing state-of-the-art facilities to enhance academic excellence.
Established in 2022, LASUSTECH is a relatively new university, borne out of the transformation of Lagos State Polytechnic. The university offers 42 programmes across 5 colleges, with a student population exceeding 12,600. LASUSTECH has secured accreditation for 39 of its 41 academic programmes from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
